| Colleton County is a 1050 square miles of "Low Country" wedged between the Combahee and Edisto Rivers, rich in forests, marshes, and old rice fields and scattered with historic plantations. Colleton has an average of 200 sunny days a year with an average high in July of 80F and an average low of 49F in January. The county has unlimited potential for growth that features extensive Interstate 95 frontage, a major north south rail frontage, less than an hour and a half from 3 sea ports, 45 minutes from Charleston's international airport. The ACE Basin is approximately 350,000 acres of diverse habitats including pine and hardwood uplands, forested wetlands, fresh, brackish, and salt water tidal marshes, barrier islands, and beaches formed between the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto Rivers. |
| The ACE Basin was established to protect, enhance, and manage a diversity of wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl, migratory birds, fin fish, wildlife and plant communities. Its goal is to maintain the natural character of the Basin by promoting wise resource management of private lands and protecting strategic tracts by conservation agencies. |

Colleton County's school system is governed by an elected board with an appointed superintendent. The district has 10 Elementary Schools, 3 Middle Schools, and 1 High School. There are also 2 Parochial and 1 Private School School. The community has a University of South Carolina (Salkehatchie) two year college. |
